VRYHEID – The past two weeks at Vryheid High School have been filled with meaningful moments, strong community involvement, and impressive sporting performances, reflecting the school’s vibrant culture and commitment to holistic development.
Faith in Action: Movie Night and Inspiring Seminar
The school’s ACTS group set the tone on 22 April with a well-attended movie night, where learners gathered to watch God’s Not Dead. The event once again proved to be a favourite among learners, offering both entertainment and an opportunity for reflection. Appreciation is extended to the ACTS team for organising yet another successful evening.
Adding to the spiritual enrichment, Vryheid High had the privilege of hosting the AEB Christian Group. Over four days, members presented a four-hour seminar series on the theme “Perfect Love.”
Through interactive sessions, speakers Vis and Wian explored the depth of love as understood in the Greek language, which distinguishes between eight different types of love—far beyond the single word commonly used in English. Learners were encouraged to reflect on how these different forms of love apply not only to relationships with others, but also to their personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The seminar left a lasting impression on many who attended.
Strong Parent Support at First Parents’ Evening
On 23 April, the school hosted its first parents’ evening of the year. The event was warmly supported, and the turnout was a testament to the strong partnership between parents and the school. Staff expressed their gratitude for the time and commitment shown by parents in supporting their children’s academic journeys.
Hockey Tour Builds Skill and Unity
From 24 April, the U/16 and 1st team hockey girls embarked on a tour to Camp Discovery. Beyond the competitive matches, the tour offered valuable opportunities for team building and skill development through clinics and shared experiences.

On Saturday, 25 April, Vryheid High hosted Newcastle High School in a full fixture of rugby, netball, hockey and chess.

While results were mixed, the determination and sportsmanship displayed across all teams stood out.

Despite icy conditions on Tuesday, 28 April, Vryheid High travelled to face Landbou on their home fields. The teams delivered strong performances across multiple codes.

A Moment of Reflection: Tribute to Hoërskool Pionier
The Vryheid High School community extends its heartfelt condolences to Hoërskool Pionier following the tragic loss of one of their learners, Keanu J van Rensburg.
