Vryheid High School warmly welcomed learners, parents and staff back for the start of Term 3. We trust that everyone enjoyed a well-deserved break and is ready for another exciting and successful term.
Our learners certainly made the most of the June/July holidays, representing the school and their respective districts with distinction across several sporting codes.
Three of our Under-15 rugby players, Enzokuhle Mqabi, Alondwe Nombede and Abonga Mkhize, were selected to represent Northern KwaZulu-Natal (NKZN) at Rhino Week, held in Vanderbijlpark from 7–11 July.
In Hockey, Jaden Dunn represented the KZN Inland Under-18 Country Districts A Team, while Suhail Dhooma represented the KZN Inland Under-18 Country Districts B Team at the North Regional Tournament in Hilton.
Our younger hockey stars also excelled, with Simphiwe Zulu representing the KZN Inland Under-13 B Team and Yamkela Sikhakhane representing the KZN Inland Under-13 C Team at the Under-13 Central Regional Tournament in Gauteng. Yamkela and his team produced an outstanding performance, finishing as runners-up after narrowly losing the final in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.
Netball also enjoyed tremendous success during the holidays. Nongcebo Mhlongo and Promise Odekpe proudly represented Zululand at the TNC Netball Tournament, held from 6–10 July at Dr E.J. Jansen High School in Boksburg, Gauteng. The team played seven matches as well as a relegation fixture. Following her excellent performances, Nongcebo Mhlongo earned selection for the Under-21 team that will compete at the SPAR Championships in Cape Town. This is a remarkable achievement, and we congratulate her on this well-deserved honour.
The momentum continued as soon as school reopened. Our First Team Girls’ Cricket side travelled to Dundee to compete in the Super 8 Cricket Tournament. The tournament provided valuable experience and highlighted areas for improvement as the team prepares for the 2026 season. The players are enthusiastic and eager for the exciting cricket season ahead.
On 25 July, Chardaé Jordaan competed in the AbaQulusi Plaza Fortress Running Series 10 km race, where she achieved a personal best and finished third overall in her age category. We are incredibly proud of Chardaé’s dedication and determination and look forward to seeing what she will accomplish in long-distance running in the future.
