It is almost the end of the term and the start of the holidays and we here at VHS are working furiously behind the scenes to make sure that everything continues to run smoothly at the school.
We would like to encourage our learners to, in the words of Electric Light Orchestra, ‘hold on tight to your dreams,’ in an effort to motivate you through this last stretch of the exams.
This term has been jam packed with sport, fun and hard work. We have had some challenges and we have faced them head-on and hopefully, grown from them into better sportsmen and –women, better students and most of all stronger, more well-rounded people. We would like to thank every parent who motivated their children to work hard and do their best, every coach and teacher who nurtures our learners into future leaders, athletes and front-runners of their fields.
Some front-runners and provincial achievers that we would like to congratulate are:
Keegan Meier for being selected for the u/18 KZN Country District rugby side. We wish him an injury free tour in the coming holiday.
We also congratulate, Kyle Meier and Joshua Stoltenkamp who were both selected to play for the NKZN, u/15 cricket team.
And lastly, we are very proud of Connor High, Rudolph Benecke and Keegan Meyer, who were also selected to represent the u/19 NKZN cricket team.
The teachers and administration staff, amongst all the marking, was in desperate need of some motivation and team building. The male members of staff all piled into the school bus and had their teambuilding weekend last weekend. The female members of staff had their teambuilding in the form of a drumming session, this past Saturday. The session was a fun way to get rid of some anxiety and frustration, but also encourages the participants to listen to the person next to them and work together to create beautiful music. What a valuable lesson this was for our staff members; that we can create beautiful things even if we all dance to the beat of our drum. Thank you to the Science department for organising the event.
We wish all our learners a safe and relaxing holiday. We look forward to welcoming you back in the third term, a little older, a little wiser and much more relaxed.
Holiday quote: Holidays are about experiences and people, and tuning into what you feel like doing at that moment. Enjoy not having to look at a watch. – Evelyn Glennie
